Senior Tips

Clothes

Bring a variety of clothes to your photoshoot even if you don’t plan on wearing all of them. Include a casual outfit such as a pair of old, worn jeans and a fitted shirt as well as a dressy out fit for mom! Don’ t forget outfits that express your lifestyle such as a team uniform, an FFA jacket, swim suit, senior hoodie, prom dress, snowboarding attire, etc.

Solid colored clothes are best for busy outdoor scenes whereas bold, colorful clothes are great for indoor solid backdrops. Black or white shirts are always classic.

Be sure to bring the right shoes and jewelry to match your outfits. A sweet pair of boots or heels can really make a picture stand out. Also try a leather or jean jacket for some spunk!

Accessories

Don’t forget the accessories! Hats, scarves, sunglasses, bandanas, belts and jewelry are all great additions to your overall look for your portraits. Remember, you are the only person in the whole world just like you, so show it off!

Make-Up

Girls, even if you don’ t normally wear make-up, try a light foundation and some mascara to brighten your eyes. Go ahead and splurge on a make-up artist to help you look your very best. Make sure to accent your eyes and use a light blush and lip gloss. Just don’t over-do it. Your make-up should accent your face, not cover it up! Don’ t worry about a few pimples, they are easily retouched later.

Hair/Nails

Choose a hair style that will go with multiple clothing choices. If you want to do a fancy style for a dressy outfit, come with it done up and we will do the dressy pics first so you can let it down for the rest. On the same note, if you plan on wearing a hat that might mess up your hair, we will try to save those pictures until the end of the session. For all of your pictures, try using hair spray or some kind of anti-frizz product to tame those fly- aways. Stray hairs are harder to retouch. Guys, a messy do looks great for pics as long as it looks intentional! Use mousse or hair spray to get a finished, intentional style. Make sure nails are clean and filed and any nail polish matches your outfits.

Tan Lines

If you are going to be having some fun in the sun before your photo shoot, try to cover up and use sun screen. Awkward tan lines are hard to retouch and sun burned skin is not attractive for pictures. Your natural skin tone will always look best so don’t over-do the tanning bed!

Props

Feel free to bring as many props as you can fit in your car! Pets are always welcome, big or small. Make sure pets are bathed and groomed before the shoot. Musical instruments and athletic equipment always look great and open up a ton of opportunities for fun poses. Bring a collection of bags, shoes, posters, books, cell phone and other gadgets, medals or anything else that is a part of you.

Expressions

It may sound goofy but practicing expressions in the mirror before your photo shoot can add some nice variety to your pictures. Of course genuine smiles are always the most desirable but try to have a mix of serious, fun, flirty surprised and other facial expressions. Also, practicing your expressions in the mirror will give you a good idea of what is the most flattering for you and what you want to try and avoid during your shoot.
